Demonstration Tour - AvPlan EFB and Cirrus SR22T GTS VH-YDA

Enjoyed visiting Rockhampton Aero Club on Wednesday, February 04 for the purpose of capturing Cirrus Design Corporation SR22T GTS VH-YDA while on a demonstration tour to a number of locations in Queensland.

On behalf of Cirrus Sunshine Coast and inconjunction with AvPlan EFB which is a unique flight planning application for the Apple iPad and iPhone, VH-YDA departed Archerfield Wednesday morning for Rockhampton as the first port of call with Mackay, Townsville, Cairns and Proserpine / Whitsunday Coast to follow. Each stop will be an overnight stay.

At each destination, Ross from Cirrus Sunshine Coast will allow interested people to not only take a closer look at the immaculately presented Cirrus SR22T GTS, but inform and answer as many questions as possible about the 4-seat aircraft.

During the evening, Bevan from AvPlan EFB will conduct a presentation about the Apple iPad & iPhone based flight planning application which will hopefully provide plenty of information about the capability and operation of the software for aviators and aviation enthusiasts alike.

Manufactured in 2013, VH-YDA is a top of the range model powered by a 310hp, twin turbo-charged Teledyne-Continental TSIO-550-K, 6-cylinder piston engine enabling the SR22 to cruise at approximately 170-175 knots.

For flights above 18 000 feet or sooner if required, oxygen is available to ensure the safety and comfort for all aboard however the aircraft is not pressurised. Depending on payload and weather conditions, endurance is reported to be approximately 3 and a half hours.

Of interest, the Cirrus SR22 is perhaps best known for being equipped with the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS), an emergency whole plane parachute capable of lowering the aircraft (and occupants) safely to the ground after a loss of control, structural failure or mid-air collision.

On a final note, I would like to sincerely thank Ross from Cirrus Sunshine Coast, Bevan from AvPlan EFB and The Rockhampton Aero Club for allowing Air Queensland.blogspot to take a closer look at this wonderful aircraft.
