Surveillance / Customs Australia Reims F406 VH-YZE and VH-YZG overnight at Longreach

Although remaining unconfirmed at the time of writing, information suggests Cairns based Surveillance / Customs Australia Reims F406 VH-YZE and VH-YZG are no longer required for duties, therefore are being returned to the actual owners of the aircraft, Cobham Aviation, in Adelaide.

Making the trip from Far North Queensland to South Australia, VH-YZE departed Cairns for Longreach on Monday, July 13. After remaining overnight, YZE continued the journey to Adelaide on Tuesday, July 14.

Meanwhile, VH-YZG departed Cairns for Longreach on Tuesday, July 14 and also remaining overnight before continuing onwards to South Australia on Wednesday, July 15.

Of interest, the Reims F406 is a twin turboprop aircraft manufactured and designed by Reims Aviation (now known as GECI Aviation) in cooperation with Cessna and marketed as a small passenger / cargo transport or alternatively is capable of being modified to undertake the role as a civilian or military surveillance platform.

Additionally, the Reims F406 is a development of the Cessna 404 but fitted with a pair of Pratt & Whitney PT6A-112 turboprops and is said to be similar to the pressurized Cessna 441.
