Seabird Aviation Australia

Seabird Aviation Australia Pty Ltd is a light aircraft manufactuer based at Hervey Bay Airport and is renown to have designed, developed and certified the SB7L-360 Seeker-2, a multi-role utility aircraft manufactuered for commercial or private use.

During a visit of the company facilities in January 2013, I sighted a ROAMES version of the Seeker which has significant changes and modifications specific to Ergon Energy requirements and can be identified as a SB7L-360 A3.

Worth noting, thrust is derived from a Textron Lycoming IO-390-A1B6 4-cylinder piston engine which has dual alternators, the second alternator is used to power the sensors on the ROAMES aeroplane.

ROAMES (Remote Observation Automated Modelling Economic Simulation) represents a paradigm shift in vegetation and infrastructure management. Developed by Ergon Energy and it's partner organisations, the creation allows precise, 3D geo-spatial representations of assets such as electricity networks.

12 months on from the first tour of the facilities at Seabird Aviation Australia, I revisited the light aircraft manufactuer in January 2014 and the company was working on developing another modified version of the seeker.

Reportedly for a Chinese customer, details about the order was tight-lipped.
